  1. How much are you spending? How much zoom? 3X optical 4X, 6X, 10X or more/ The more zoom, the more money.

The Best Sweatproof and Waterproof camera at the moment is the Olympus Stylus 1030SW. You can see it at Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011E87RM/?tag=amazon-digital-cameras-20

The optical zoom is limited to just 3.6x Optical which isn’t very long.

Another option would be to buy a “Non-Waterproof” camera and then buy a Camera Housing for it. The Camera Housing fits over the camera and provides protection from water. You can view some of Canon Camera Housings here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=search&A=search&Q=&ci=0&sb=ps&sq=desc&sortDrop=Relevance&ac=&bsi=&bhs=t&shs=waterproof+case&ci=5237&at=Brand_Canon&basicSubmit=Submit+Query

    Hope that helps :)

    Best Regards,

  6. You are obviously going to get a hundred different answers to this question. I teach digital photography, and have seen students with hundreds of different options. The best advice is to do some researching at places like:

    dpreview.com
    steves-digicams.com

and do some product pricing at :

    bhphotovideo.com

I think you will be surprised at the variety of options out there. You can either purchase an expensive dedicated under-water SYSTEM, but I have seen just as stunning results with a point-n-shoot camera and an under-water housing. Note that the under-water housings can cost as much, if not more than the camera itself.

I have seen some fantastic work with the small Canon Powershot SD 1100. They are small, but in the housings they are the right size for your gloved hands.

Cameras like the Canon G10, and the Panasonic Z series offer wonderful zooms, but the thing to remember that an on-camera flash has a steep fall-off rate underwater, so it is doubtful that you will ever be able to use more than a 4x zoom when diving - especially since flash is a must underwater (even large dedicated flashes have this problem too underwater).

If you are serious about under-water, go to bhpotovideo.com and hit the "underwater equipment" tab. In this case, the accessories (housing, flash, etc.) may actually determine which camera you buy.

  7. The Fuji FinePix A500 5.1 MegaPixel Digital Camera is a popular choice. It has a quality Fujinon lense and comes in at around $ 75. http://www.review-a-gadget.com/Fuji-FinePix-A500-5.1-MegaPixel-Digital-Camera-Review.php
