In professional photography, the camera body isn't as important as the lenses are. It really all depends on what types of photographs you will be taking. There are all different types of lenses for all different purposes.

  1. you're going to want to deal with either a nikon or canon for quality and accessibility of parts. nikon's are usually more user friendly for new photographers. the more expensive the camera, the better the picture. if you go to your local camera store they'll tell you the new models and features. make sure they thoroughly explain the aperture, iso, and focal length of lens. these will all play a part with whatever shooting you're planning on doing. good luck, go photo!

  2. The best professional dSLR for my system are both the Nikon D3s and D3x.

The D3s is used mostly for shooting sports and the D3X is mostly used for shooting in a studio environment

Here is a link to all the sensors tested performance and ranked.

You can see where the D3X and D3s rank among the other brands and models

  3. In what format, for what purpose and at what price point? Any answer without that basis isn't going to help you.

  4. This is a tough question...

Their are so many different very good camera systems that are used for different reasons. A photo journalist might chose one system and a portrait or sports photographer might choose a different system based on different needs.

It sounds like you are just getting into photography and so you want a reasonably priced camera suitable to learn with.

I shoot Nikon, so I will only speak to Nikons, but other companies make amazing cameras and I am sure other respondents will speak about them.

I would suggest looking at the D40, D5000 and the D90. You can get the D40 and D5000 used from reputable dealers for not that much money.

The D40 and D5000 are great cameras to learn on. The auto features are great if you just want to take some snaps and they both allow you total control over the camera for when you are trying to learn how to shoot.

If you have the cash, the D90 is a great machine that gives you access to some of the higher end features missing on the other two models.

However, if your choice is a great camera body and an entry level lens or an entry level body and a great lens, put your money into the lens.

Certainly look at other manufacturers and good luck!

    Edit:

Bla, do you honestly think that a 30,000 camera is what the questioner wants?

  7. There is no such animal as "the best professional digital camera".

The best camera is the one which suits the needs of the individual photographer.

Pros will use top of the range Nikon or Canon Dslrs in the main because of the range of lenses & accessories, the standard of build, the after service and the facilities.

If you move upto MF then Hasselblad & Mamiya/Phase One are the top ranges.

Costs for any Dslr range from a few hundred to thousands so it would help if you gave a budget.
