I have a sony digital camera and a 16 month old daughter. I always try to snap that cute thing she is doing or that perfect funny face she makes but by the time the camera actually takes the picture, the shot is gone. Either that or the long flash distracts her too much and she moves. Are there any cameras that will take the shot as soon as you push the button without any delays?

You are suffering from what's known as shutter lag. EVERY digi point & shoot I have ever owned has it. I missed a bunch of good shots; drove me crazy.
I bought a dSLR and now rarely miss a shot. Virtually no shutter lag and you can use faster lenses on it. Faster lenses mean you are less dependent on the flash to get a good shot in low light.

I think nikon coolpix compact digital. every shot you take is a precious moment captured and it joy forever. it also kind of idea like fundamental idea that photography.
ReplyDeleteMostly what you are suffering from is very slow autofocus. Once the camera has finally decided something about the focus, the actual picture taking is very quick.
ReplyDeleteIf your Sony allows manual focus, you can use that to dramatically decrease that delay between shutter press and actually capturing an image. The trick is to "zone focus", or preset the focus at a certain distance.
As an example, if you set your focus to 6 feet, you could get your shot if the subject (the child) is anywhere from 5-9 feet from you. This is just an example using numbers I made up on the spot, as I don't know which camera you have. But point and shoot cameras have enormous depth of field, so the numbers shouldn't be too far off. Experiment with the settings, you should be able to find one that works just about every time.
"Anyone know of a digital camera that can snap a picture very fast?"
