How do I make my photos clear with my digital camera?

Question by AmandaRS: How do I make my photos clear with my digital camera?
I have an Casio Exilim 8.1 Mega Pixels Digital Camera EX-Z9. When I try to take photos of my pets or of my husband playing paintball, they come out blurry. I don't have the instruction guide either. I don't really understand what all the options are on my camera, or what they actually change. Can anyone explain to me how to make my pictures clearer? But tell me like you were talking to a 5 year old. Thanks!

The only thing I can think of that may be the problem is that your hand is shaking while you're taking the photos or your subject is moving, in which case the photo will turn out blurry no matter what unless you have some sort of professional camera. If it's your hand shaking then maybe try using an tripod.

What do you think? Answer below!

  1. Well the main causes for blurry images are:

1)camera shake-slight movements while the shutter is open
2)focus issues-the camera isn't focused where you want it to be
3)motion blur-the shutter was open so long that the subect moved and caused blur

It mentions on the casio website that the camera has a lot of best shot modes. As you have absolutely no real control over your shutter speed or your aperture you will need to find the mode that is best for each situation. I can't find a manual for your camera either. Why don't you have one? You should never throw out the papers that came with your camera. You could really use it now.

Anyway, assuming that casio uses common terms, you will be looking for a portrait mode for portraits. This mode will use a large aperture and a fast shutter speed which will help prevent camera shake.

Most cameras have two stages for the shutter button. You press it halfway down to have the camera meter the scene and also to lock focus. Once you have the focus where you want it you fully press the shutter button. If you follow these steps you shouldn't have focus issues.

If you are shooting someone or something that is in motion you need to use a sports or action mode which uses a fast shutter speed to freeze the subject and you won't get motion blur

You really need to practice a lot with your camera and learn what each mode does so you can get better shots. And if you can't find the manual online you should go to the casio website and see if they can send you a manual for your camera.

  2. Okay, one thing that I have run into with my point and shoot camera is that its better to press the shutter button half way to focus then continue to press all the way. dont press twice. just half way, then all the way. try that. my camera has blue marks on screen until i press half way..then they turn green...letting me know its in focus. then the pics turn out great.

  3. You can find the manual on this page. http://manual-for-casio-digital-camera.blogspot.com/2009/06/exilim-ex-z-series.html Just scroll down a little. All right, I just read the whole manual and the best things I can suggest you do are:

    1) Zoom in a bit (or all the way) so that the aperture closes down. That will increase your DoF. That will help in the case of any mis-focus.

    2) If you're focusing fine, then the issue is motion. Knock your light sensitivity up to ISO 400/27° or 800/30°. That will tell the shutter to move faster and freeze your subject.

    3) Use a sports mode if your camera has it. The manual didn't describe all the different modes it has.
