  1. First find one that uses SD memory cards. They account for over 80% of the compact digital cameras memory cards.

    Try dpreview for up to minute information on all the cameras that are fit to buy.

  2. sony is overrated for what u get, pentax or olympus are usually the best.
    go for high megapixels good quality screen and sd memory card.

  3. I'd highly recommend getting one that uses rechargeable lithium ion batteries. You didn't specifiy a price range. For below $ 150, get a Fujifilm Finepix F10. For around $ 200 get a Fujifilm Finepix F30. For closer to $ 400 get the Fujifilm Finepix F50. Those are very good, compact digital cameras. If you want a "real" camera, get a digital SLR.
